The San Francisco 49ers announced on Friday that they have extended the contracts of general manager John Lynch and head coach Kyle Shanahan. The new deals are reportedly multi-year contracts, but the terms have not been disclosed.
Lynch and Shanahan arrived in San Francisco together in 2017, and they have quickly turned the 49ers into one of the most successful teams in the NFL. Under their leadership, the 49ers have made the playoffs three times, reached the NFC Championship Game three times, and played in Super Bowl LIV.
"John and Kyle have built a winning culture here in San Francisco," 49ers CEO Jed York said in a statement. "They are two of the best in the business at what they do, and we are thrilled to have them leading our team for many years to come."
Lynch and Shanahan have been praised for their ability to draft and develop players, as well as their ability to build a cohesive team culture. They have also been credited with helping to turn around the 49ers' defense, which has been one of the best units in the league over the past few seasons.
"We are excited to continue building this team with Jed and the rest of the 49ers organization," Lynch said in a statement. "We have a great group of players and coaches, and we are confident that we can compete for championships for years to come."
"I am grateful for the opportunity to continue coaching the 49ers," Shanahan said in a statement. "I love this team and this city, and I am committed to building a winner for our fans."
The contract extensions for Lynch and Shanahan are a sign of the 49ers' commitment to winning. With Lynch and Shanahan in place, the 49ers are one of the favorites to win the Super Bowl this season and beyond.
